"Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud." (Proverbs 16:19 KJV)

Humility is out of style. The world seeks to glorify people and not God.

The story's a sad one really. We're encouraged to think of ourselves highly, that we are perfect just as we are. But are we really?

Being the center of attention has taken a bigger importance than the behind-the-scenes, nitty-gritty type workers who hold everything together.

People today use their talents to glorify themselves instead of using them to glorify God.

When we use our talents to glorify ourselves, we are ultimately following the path to pride. Pride says I am more important than God, and when we take God out of the picture, the needs of others also fall to the wayside.

"God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble." (James 4:6 KJV)

The paradox of the gospel is this:

"And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted." (Matthew 23:12 KJV)

Being humble has it's advantages!! And those advantages are much better than the temporary fame pride can get you.

Our ultimate goal as Christians is to be like Christ. One of my favorite passages about humility is found in Philippians 2.

"And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross." (Philippians 2:8 KJV)

If we are to have the mind of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, we must be humble! There is no way around it.

Humility is in high demand... Will you be the one to hear the call?
