Peer Pressure

12:01:00 PM

Friends. Friends are amazing, don't you think? They brighten our lives in ways no one else can. But we should be careful when we choose who we call as friends. Why? Simply put: peer pressure.

Peer pressure can be defined as the social influence a peer group exerts on its individual members as each member attempts to conform to the expectations of the group. *

So now that we know what peer pressure is, why are we subject to it? As teens, we're trying to find our place in the world and we want to be accepted by others around us. We don't want to be different. That's why it's so important to surround ourselves with people who will put us on the right path and not the wrong one.

"He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed." (Proverbs 13:20 KJV)
"Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend." (Proverbs 27:17 KJV)

Maybe you're thinking that you don't need to worry about who you hang around because you're not easily swayed by popular opinion. But everyone is subjected to peer pressure.

So what should we look for in a good friend?

  1. Honesty - "Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful." (Proverbs 27:6 KJV)
  2. Love - "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." (John 15:13 KJV)
  3. Humility-"Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honor preferring one another;" (Romans 12:10 KJV)
  4. Kind - "And let us not be weary in well doing; for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not." (Galatians 6:9 KJV)
  5. Patient - "With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love." (Ephesians 4:2 KJV)
  6. And more!!!! (forgiving, faithful, wise, gracious, thankful, diligent, ect.)
Remember that good friends who show these characteristics will be more likely to pressure you in the right direction instead of the wrong.

"And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." (Romans 12:2 KJV)
And that's all I have for today!
