The Power of Words

5:50:00 PM

"Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer." (Psalm 19:14 KJV)

Words have more power than we know. They have power for good and power for bad. And we all have a choice to use them for either.

What are some bad ways to use our words?

1. Gossip

Gossip is talking about the details of other people's life that are unconfirmed or just downright untrue. Gossip can ruin friendships and seriously hurt other people.

2. Lying

Lying causes us to lose trust and credibility with those around us.

3. Cussing

Using inappropriate words is not God-honoring. We should be using our words to praise and uplift.

Now what would be some ways we should use words?

1. Encourage

An encouraging word can turn someone's whole day around.

2. Praise

Everything we say should be a reflection of God.

3. Thanksgiving

A simple word of thanks to someone only takes a minute!
"A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver." (Proverbs 25:11 KJV)

Words literally have the power to bring death or life, so choose to speak life wherever you go!

"Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:" (James 1:19 KJV)
Listening is an art to mastered, and is always superior to talking. If you'd like to read more about how to become a better listener, hop over to my friend Emily's blog This Incandescent Life.
