A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away. ~Ecclesiastes 3:6 KJV

Sometimes we hold on to things. We hold on to things that we love or don't want to lose. We hold on to our anger, guilt, and shame. But God doesn't want us to live that way.

When we hold on to things - whether it be a person we don't want to lose, a relationship we want to continue, or emotion that won't seem to come out - we put ourselves inside of a prison.

This prison is called the prison of control. It's a place where you strive to control everything around you. But this controlling attitude gets you no where. You end up right where you started.

Because you can't force someone to do what you want them to do. You can't force a relationship with someone who doesn't want it. And you can't force emotions to go away or simply change.

You're not God.

But do you know what you can do? You can let God work out His perfect will. You can step back and let Him guide you in whatever you're going through.

You can let go of all the things you want to control. It won't be easy. And a lot of times you'll have to keep letting go of something you've picked back up.

But this release of things to God will free you from your prison.

My friend Aidan over at Story Forger recently wrote a post about walking away that is similar to this post. I'd love if you'd go check out his post: Story Forger: Walking Away.

So, are you ready to be free?

What are you still holding on to?
