So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. Psalms 90:12 KJV
I know it's a weird thought, but before we know it we'll be all grown up, Married and having a family of our own. And though it's hard to see what the future will bring, it's a good idea to start preparing ourselves for the life of a parent and spouse.

Preparing to Be a Spouse

Besides the obvious things you can do that include keeping your purity, there are other things that you can do to prepare for your wedding day and beyond.

Prayer is one of the most important tools to develop now. If you can learn to pray for your future spouse, even if you don't know who it is yet (which most of us probably don't), it will help you immensely to love him when he comes along.

Learning to be a servant now will allow you to easily be a servant later. There are all sorts of things that need to be done around the house, and if you just step up and do it, you'll have a much nicer household.

Honesty is also key. When we can be honest and open now with certain people, it will carry over into our marriage, and a marriage with secrets is never a good thing. Being more open and honest with your spouse will help you sort out problems before they snowball into disasters.

Preparing to Be a Parent

If you have younger siblings, you're blessed to have kids to practice your parenting skills with. :)

Babysitting will help you develop patience. Because we all know that kids aren't the little angels they look sometimes.

It can also teach you to be more firm. Some of us *clears throat* do not like to say no, but there are times when we need to put our foot down and let the kids know that we are in charge.

Also, when you're looking out for other kids, it teaches you responsibility. No longer are you responsible just for you, but now you have several little kids to feed and put to bed ect.

Instead of just waiting for the right person to come along, start preparing yourself so that when he does come you're ready!
