Fruit of the Spirit: Peace

Monday September 19, 2016

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. ~John 14:27 KJV

The world is looking for peace. Peace between nations, peace between religious groups, and peace between ethnic groups. Does God want us to have peace?

Of course He does! In Psalms, God tells us to pursue and seek peace (34:14) and to pray for Jerusalem's peace (122:6). Don't you remember God calling himself the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6)? Later in Isaiah, God says "thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee" (26:3 KJV)

So obviously God wants to give us peace. But I think God's more concerned with our peace with Him than anything else.

Most people are not at peace with God. They are fighting against God which makes them God's enemies (James 4:4). But God wants all to be at peace with Him! (2 Peter 3:9)

How can we get on God's side then?
Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. ~ Romans 5:1 KJV

There is still hope to have peace with God! Through Jesus Christ's sacrifice, God has made a way for us to have peace with Him.

The world will never have the peace they are looking for. Because only true peace can come when God is involved. And though some days the world may look like a mess, we must remember:
For he [Christ] is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us. ~Ephesians 2:14 KJV

So, make sure you're looking for peace in the right places and be certain of your peace with God.
