Dealing with Disappointment

Monday, May 1, 2017

Have you ever felt disappointed about something? Maybe you've been disappointed in someone who let you down. Maybe you've been disappointed that you couldn't attend a certain event. Or maybe you've been disappointed by a certain situation that you thought would go differently.

Disappointments will come your way. And some days you may feel as though life itself is disappointment. Why get your hopes up for something that would never happen anyway?

When you're climbing "disappointment mountain", your spirits may be low. You're afraid to get your hopes up for anything for fear that you'll be let down - again. You have a "been there, done that" mentality that usually focuses on the negative.

People will disappoint you.
They won't always come through for you and they won't be the perfect friend you need.

Things will disappoint you.
They won't be able to quench the neediness in your soul for something more.

Places will disappoint you.
They can only point you to the One who created them.

God will never disappoint you. He is always with you. He can fill the hole in your soul. He is the One who created you.

When we place our hope and expectations outside of God is when we face disappointment. When we're placing our trust in things that are destined to fail.

Don't place expectations in any of those places! Because you will surely deal with disappointment if you do.
