Dealing with Hopelessness

Thursday, June 1, 2017

Are there some days where certain things just feel hopeless? Do you think because you've messed up in the past that your future is hopeless?

Sometimes life can leave us hopeless. Whether we've been knocked down by failure, disappointments, guilt, or anxiety, the trials in life can make us feel like our situation is hopeless.

When we're climbing "hopelessness mountain", we may think that nothing we can do will make a difference in our situation. We have an attitude of apathy when we've been stuck here for a while. Almost an 'it is what it is' outlook on the situation.

Hopelessness is a scary feeling. It's the feeling of not being able to do anything about the bad things that happen around us. As humans, we like to be in control, and hopelessness is often the feeling of being completely out of control in a situation.

Of course, we're not in control of a lot of what happens in our lives. But often the enemy makes us think we are - giving us a false sense of security.

Once we realize we're not in control, it seems scary at first. But when we realize God is in control - and we trust Him to have a perfect plan for everything - that's when we can know that we don't have to be in control.

That's where we find our hope. Not in ourselves and our control of everything going on, but in God and His sovereign will.

Where are you finding your hope today?

"Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God." ~Psalms 42:11 KJV
