Dealing with Shame

Monday, June 12, 2017

Do you have things in your life that you know you need to talk to someone about but you're too ashamed to bring it up?

Shame is a natural feeling in regards to sin - and when we're living in sin we should feel shame for the sin in our lives.

But like guilt, there's a certain time when shame can prevent us from dealing with sin in our lives.

When we're climbing "shame mountain", we're afraid of what others will think of us when we tell them some of the sins we fight. In essence we're scared that they will look at us differently and possibly reject us.

So, we cover up. We don't want anyone to know what's going on deep inside us, because we're afraid of our shame and the shame we think others will place on us.

Shame is one of the main reasons that people don't talk about the sins they need help overcoming.

And honestly, part of it is a pride issue.

But the other part of it is shame.

If someone is honestly trying to get help with something in his life, then the last thing we want is for him to feel too ashamed to talk about it.

It's hard to admit to someone else that you're struggling.

But shouldn't Christians be coming alongside each other in areas like this? If we as Christians can acknowledge that we all need help, it will be easier to open up to someone about sin in our life.

We're all about trying to become more like Jesus, and the only way we can do that is through fellowship with Him and a community of believers who can help us along in our journey.

So let's set aside our shame and be honest with the things we need help with.

And let's come alongside those who have opened up about things they struggle with and encourage them in God's Word.

"Yea, let none that wait on thee be ashamed: let them be ashamed which transgress without cause." ~Psalm 25:3 KJV
