Ecclesiastes 3: Love and Hate; War and Peace

Monday, March 19, 2018

"A time of love, and a time of hate; a time of war, and a time of peace." ~ Ecclesiastes 3:8 KJV
Before we get saved, we are at peace with the world around us and love the sins and pleasures it offers us. Which means we are at war with God and hate the things of God.

But once we get saved, it reverses. We learn to hate the world and the sins it promotes and love God and His Word.We learn that we are in a battle against the flesh.
"For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other." ~Galatians 5:17a KJV
The world's cry is for there to be world peace and that everyone would just love each other. It sounds good on the surface but the world's version of peace and love is not the kind of peace and love that the Christian has hope in.

In fact, the world's version of peace and love isn't true peace and love at all.

We will never be able to have true peace until Jesus Christ comes and sits on His throne on this earth. We will never be able to have true love towards others 100% of the time, until we get new glorified bodies in heaven.

We shouldn't be seeking peace and love from this world; for they can only give us a counterfeit of the real thing. We should be seeking peace and love from God and His Words.
"Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." ~ John 14:27 KJV
We must realize, that as Christians, we are in a war. We should constantly be fighting battles against our sin, our flesh, and spiritual strongholds in our lives. There are things in this world that we are called to hate; sin for example.

The Christian who is comfortable with his life, often isn't fighting these daily battles.
"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God..." ~ Ephesians 12-13 KJV
As Christians, we are called to a peace that passes all understanding. A peace that only God can give and that the world doesn't understand.

We are also called to fight in a war. A war that is not against people, but against spiritual beings and against our flesh.

We are called to love those around us; not the mushy kind of love that only loves if the other person loves us back, but the real kind of love, that selflessly puts others before ourselves and isn't afraid to speak the truth in love.

We are also called to hate those things that God hates. The sin and evil in the world that are becoming more and more prevalent in our society.

"Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ." ~Romans 5:1 KJV
